Almost four weeks in quarantine. What to do?
Due to current situation our office workers started working from home. Everyone of us had to create an improvised workplace at home and re-create their agenda. A great opportunity for self-discipline learning! Easier for those without families, a little harder for those who have to stay at home with children.
Now, thinking about our director. With a good sense of humor he says: „ When you are not face-to-face with employees in the office, you can‘t control their working process, what and when everyone is doing and how many coffees has already taken today. Whether people are „at work“ you can only determine how quickly they respond to emails.“ More, our company doesn‘t use any office work management software. So, we conclude that more than ever there is a big need to focus on the results rather than on working process. And wondering how this temporary work model will affect our working principles when the quarantine ends and the world returns to normal.
However, we have found some benefits in the situation: we have discovered new talents in our colleagues! The company didn‘t lay off any person; more, our director took a courage and assigned new tasks to existing employees and gave them the opportunity to unleash untapped skills and competences. For example, a salesgirl at our store started to assist the marketing department; some persons from our team with a good command of foreign languages started writing and updating the company website in foreign languages. So, putting this all together, we are even taking a progress!
